Scenic Chronicles are a series of images of the same scene taken over a long period of time. Back to the Brick Pond Scenic Chronicles Page.
From the parking lot on East Front Street, if you walk past the Kiosk sign, on the right side towards the water, you'll see the pond. If you look a little to the left, towards the far side of the pond you'll see the beaver lodge. There is a large Willow tree to the left that over hangs the pond. That's our scene here.
Most of the trees of the Pond are deciduous and have already lost their leaves.
The light brown box in the middle and about 1/4 from the right is a bird blind on the other shore.
Mild December kept the pond from freezing.
By January there was some ice.
Back to open water, ripples from the wind that day. Can also see better here, orange at the water line in the back. That is fencing, closing off the East Berm trail due to high water.
A calmer day allowed for more reflections of the clouds and sky. Though tough to see a goose far out swimming along.
Straining to see if there are buds yet.
Definitely buds out now.
Aquatic vegetation starting to be more visible as well as that along the banks.
Spring has new growth coming up everywhere.
Does the water look a little lower? Volunteer Bob Dannecker, after much work, was able to clear a drain pipe that our Beaver friends felt needed to be plugged!
With water down, plans are underway to re-open the East Berm trail, but not just yet.
There are parts where the lily pads are so thick, it looks like you could walk across them.
You even see some green on top of the Beaver's lodge.
If you look close, you'll see the orange fence down. Local Boy Scouts did major work, including replacing bridges on the East Berm Trail.
A foggy morning kept me from seeing ducks on the pond, but not from hearing them like little fog horns.
No serious signs of fall yet.
Now, we start to see some color in parts of the trees and other foliage on the shore lines.
More color and several trees shedding their leaves.
Even the aquatic plants seem to be shrinking. And I no longer startle frogs as I walk the shore.
Not to be seen here, but a time of year when many birds stop in on their migration path.
The water looks cold, but still liquid. Critters down in the mud .
The pond has been frozen for a while and a coating of snow.
Some rain, followed by winter mix, and very cold. Still frozen, and windswept. Birds in the underbrush but most things staying out of the cold.
Things got cold again. If you squint, you can make out geese near the beaver lodge and the far bridge. Just below the picture on near bank, open water, would be a muskrat munching away.
While things had warmed up last week, we had some snow this morning. The water was all open, but you can see snow on the beaver lodge. Some buds starting to come out.
