Stephen Gordon enlisted in March of 1943. He trained at Fort Lewis, Washington, Fort Pierce, Florida, and Camp Pickett, Virginia before heading overseas in March of 1944 with a unit of combat engineers. They were heavily involved in Day 1 of the D-Day invasion. He was killed in action during the landing on June 6, 1944. A graduate of Union-Endicott High School, and son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gordon of Endicott.
There is a "Hometown Hero Banner" to honor PFC Gordon in the Village of Endicott. It is located the north side of Main Street just west of Badger Avenue, near what is currently Harry Tuft's. See Hometown Heroes page for more details.
