A town park with a few short trails and many other facilities. A nice place for a short walk and a picnic lunch.
Arnold Park can be found on GPS. There are multiple parking lots within the park that one can use.
Arnold Park is part of the Town of Vestal park system. It offers sports playing fields, a playground, volleyball pit, hockey pond, and multiple pavillions with grills. With over 95 acres, it's a good size town park. The trail heads are in the northeast of the picnic areas, past the last pavilion.
Three trails are described. There is a fair amount of elevation gain for a 'park'.
The exercise trail (VITA) has fourteen stations throughout it's loop. It goes frffom the wooded are up to the power line and then back down the hill to the final station.
The Nature Loop trail starts just west of the Vita Loop. At the top of the hill turn right and go down to the tower trail. Note there are some extensions off this that lead to private property.
The Tower Trail begins on the gravel road past the maintenance building, or alternatively you can start at the other end near the Nature Loop. Follow the gravel road up past the transmission towers. From the hill top you may get a glimpse looking northwest across the Susquehanna River on a clear day. The area around it is private property, so stay on the road. Other guides warn if you have a pacemaker, avoid the tower area.
You'll find a mixture of trees and undergrowth. Some of the lower sections have conifers including Eastern White Pine and Norway Spruce. There is also a lot of hardwoods mixed into the forest, especially at higher elevations.
