George Somerville enlisted on November 13, 1941 and attended officer training school at Camp Davis, NC. He was commisioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1943. Lt. Somerville served in the 335 Infantry Regiment of the 84th Infantry Division. He was killed in action January 3, 1945 in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School and was survived by his wife Rita Somerville. His body was reburied at Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City in 1949.

With the 84th, he saw action in France, Belgium, and Germany.
