Scenic Chronicles are a series of images of the same scene taken over a long period of time. Back to the Chenango Valley State Park Scenic Chronicles page.
If you take the Bog Trail to where it meets the Trail afround Chenango Lake, you'll see a bridge built by an Eagle Scout Craig Alpaugh in 1992, part of Boy Scout Troop 152, Kattelville, NY. If you continue pass the bridge to the lake and turn around, you'll see this view of the bridge. You'll notice the changes in water level from time to time.
A mild winter, but still snow is seen in shaded areas.
I'm not positive what all controls the water level. There are some gates just on otherside of bridge and I believe controls on the dam of the actual lake. In anycase, you see the water is down significantly.
By June most of the leaves are back out on the trees.
Water is still coming up, looking at tree on bank on leftside of picture.
And just like that the water is down. You see a tiny bit of color in shrubs.
Just a few leaves turning.
Lots of color now in the leaves.
Past peak fall color and leaves starting to cover lake.
The leaves in water have either sunk or blown against the shore.
Much colder winter than last year.
Ice creeps in from the lake.
It's been a while since I made the stop at this spot and the difference from March is drastic. Full on green.
Summer went fast, though still technically summer. The cool nights and dry weather have created some color as you see in lower plants. You can also see the water level low here. The sun reflecting off the ripples in lake made need night patterns in the trees.
December had been cold, but the past week things warmed up slightly even with some rain. Though the packed snow on trails turned to ice. Here you see open water, but behind us is mostly ice.
