Scenic Chronicles are a series of images of the same scene taken over a long period of time. Back to the Oakley Corners State Forest Scenic Chronicles Page.
In the southern half of the forest there are two lakes (ponds?). This view is of the larger of the two where the beavers have been he busiest. This scene is taken facing north along the berm where the main beaver dam is located.
Leaves are down. The land on the right side is part of an island. The beaver dam is off screen to far right.
The lake has a lot of pine trees around it, but there are some deciduous trees as well.
A coating of snow, but not cold enough yet to freeze the lake.
A month of relative cold has frozen the lake and then a slight covering of snow.
While there is ice, you can see open water in the distance, there is also some to the left.
All open water now and it'll remain that way until next winter.
A dreary day.
Geese have returned. You see one middle left and small dots out in middle are more.
Geese will have young here. You also see buds on some of the trees.
The new leaves are out on the island trees.
A beautful day with a lot of green and blue.
More geese and ducks in the distance.
Hints of color.
Many of the hardwoods surrending the lake have their fall colors now.
Halloween's Eve.
Leaves are down.
We ice over earlier this year. You see footprints of those venturing out on ice.
Still very frozen.
Despite a few days in the upper 30°s, there is still a lot of ice. Off screen to far left and right, is open water. That the beavers will exploit.
