Scenic Chronicles are a series of images of the same scene taken over a long period of time. Back to the Apalachin Marsh Scenic Chronicles Page.
The North Point Trail has a bend in it on the western side coming off the Marsh Loop Trail. From this point our scene is looking west to where one of the fingers of the marsh water reaches inwards.
We're past the fall colors.
You see the ferns starting to bend down.
A mild winter. But still much sleeps.
A few buds will start to appear.
A few more buds. I keep waiting for the "pop" of spring.
Spring probaby popped the week before this.
Continued growth in the leaves and undergrowth.
The trail is starting to disappear.
Where you see the sunlight is the finger of marsh that keeps the growth down.
A hot summer, drying things out a little.
A little fog today pours in through the marsh finger.
A tiny hint of color?
More than a hint of color.
The green in the back are large white pines.
Leaves have dropped and understory pulls back.
We had a very dry fall, the marsh water has almost all pulled out of that finger (can't really see, I should have taken picture from up higher).
The ferns seem to be wondering if it's time.
Some of the ferns again bend down on their hinges.
This winter, several snows would cover the marsh.
Very different than last winter.
After some warm up, snow here is missing. But I'm not sure winter is over.
While it had warmed up this month, we were surprised by some snow flurries today and obviously cooler weather. Snow didn't stick in the Marsh other than a few spots.
A good bit of rain last night and temperature around 62° today.
