Scenic Chronicles are a series of images of the same scene taken over a long period of time. Back to the Brick Pond Scenic Chronicles Page.
If you take the pond loop to the pennisula on the eastside, you get a view facing southwest of the beaver lodge.
By January there was some ice.
Back to open water, ripples from the wind that day.
Straining to see if there are buds yet.
Buds are appearing now. Water looks up a bit.
Spring has new growth coming up everywhere. Green growing around the tops of trees on the south shore. And aquatic plants appearing more.
Does the water look a little lower? Volunteer Bob Dannecker, after much work, was able to clear a drain pipe that our Beaver friends felt needed to be plugged!
Water level has dropped a little, but that doesn't stop the lilypads from growing.
There are parts where the lily pads are so thick, it looks like you could walk across them.
You even see some green on top of the Beaver's lodge.
You can see like a little slit through the lilypads that the beavers have kept open.
A foggy morning kept me from seeing ducks on the pond, but not from hearing them like little fog horns.
No serious signs of fall yet.
Now, we start to see some color in parts of the trees and other foliage on the shore lines.
More color and several trees shedding their leaves.
Even the aquatic plants seem to be shrinking. And I no longer startle frogs as I walk the shore.
Not to be seen here, but a time of year when many birds stop in on their migration path.
The water looks cold, but still liquid. Critters down in the mud . And my finger got in the way. 😂
The pond has been frozen for a while and a coating of snow.
Some rain, followed by winter mix, and very cold. Still frozen, and windswept. Birds in the underbrush but most things staying out of the cold.
Things got cold again. If you squint, you can make out geese near the beaver lodge. A little open water near the bank. I'd see muskrats out today.
While things had warmed up last week, we had some snow this morning. Some buds starting to come out.
It's been a while and you can see spring has started at the Pond. The water level was also a bit higher with two days of heavy rain putting about 10" of water over the east berm.
