Scenic Chronicles are a series of images of the same scene taken over a long period of time. Back to the Apalachin Marsh Scenic Chronicles Page.
A lot of standing dead snags in the Marsh provide food or habitat for birds, small mammals, and insects. This one along the North Point Trail caught my eye. It's opposite the North Point Trail Bend View. I found it interesting how the backdrop of the dead tree changes through the seasons and the amount of light that enters corresponds with those changes. The ferns that bow down during winter, but rise again throughout spring.
The 2023-24 winter was on mild side.
Grass on edges of boardwalk start to become green.
And boom, Spring begins for real.
The ferns in foreground rising up as the leaves on trees in backgroun fill out.
Still a patch of sunlight to right where there is an opening in the trees.
A lot of green as much of the canopy is blocked.
Foggy Fall morning.
Some leaves are off and others still turning.
Now there is a lot of color!
Some of the ferns hold on.
Even ferns have started to hinge flat for winter.
More snow this Winter, though I didn't get to the Marsh as much.
If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound? I think this is the end of following this fun spot.
