Scenic Chronicles are a series of images of the same scene taken over a long period of time. Back to the Apalachin Marsh Scenic Chronicles Page.
Along the North Point Trail, on the western side, you'll find a bench facing the water from the northeast corner of the water. Despite the nearby westbound lanes, this is a fun spot to watch for birds either in the water in front of you, water in the distance, or at times a raptor in the tall trees off slightly to the right in the distance. This spot is relatively close to the North Point Trail Bend Scenic Chronicle View.
We're past the fall colors.
A mild winter. But still much sleeps.
Are those buds I'm starting to see?
Yes, some buds.
A few more buds. I keep waiting for the "pop" of spring.
Spring probaby popped the week before this.
Continued growth in the leaves and undergrowth.
I didn't think this through when I picked this spot, the water is being hidden. I should have stood on the bench, not behind it. 🤣
A little fog today hangs over the Marsh.
A tiny hint of color?
More than a hint of color.
More color and more of the water becomes visible again.
Leaves have dropped and some aquatic vegetation goes dormant.
This winter, several snows would cover the marsh, and the water freezes.
Very different than last winter. Happy Valentine's Day!
After some warm up, snow here is missing. But I'm not sure winter is over.
While it had warmed up this month, we were surprised by some snow flurries today and obviously cooler weather. The water was mostly open, but the geese weren't happy.
A good bit of rain last night and temperature around 62° today. Buds and the green are starting to return.
